الحليم

Al-Halim

The Forbearing

Meaning

Al-Halim is the One who is patient and forbearing, who does not rush to punish those who disobey Him. Despite His perfect power to destroy sinners instantly, He gives them time to repent, chances to return, and opportunities to change. Every moment a sinner continues to breathe is evidence of Al-Halim's forbearance. We sin openly, yet He continues to feed us, shelter us, and sustain us. The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was described as "halim" — forbearing — because this quality reflects a divine attribute. When we are patient with those who wrong us, when we give people second chances, we are reflecting this noble name of Allah.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:225): "Allah does not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He imposes blame upon you for what your hearts have earned. And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing."

Daily Reflection

How many sins have you committed while Allah continued to bless you? His forbearance gave you time to repent. Are you using that time wisely?

Today's Action

Be forbearing with someone who frustrates you today. Instead of reacting with anger, give them space and time. Reflect Al-Halim's patience in your interactions.

Dhikr

يا حليم (Ya Halim)

Say it 100 times, thanking Allah for His patience with you.

Dua

اللهم يا حليم لا تعاجلنا بالعقوبة وأمهلنا لنتوب إليك

O Allah, the Forbearing, do not hasten our punishment and give us respite to repent to You.
