الغفور
Al-Ghafur
The All-Forgiving
Meaning
Al-Ghafur is the One who forgives extensively and completely. While Al-Ghaffar emphasizes the repeated nature of forgiveness, Al-Ghafur emphasizes the totality and completeness of it. When Al-Ghafur forgives, He covers the sin entirely, as if it never happened. He does not bring it up again, does not remind you of it, and does not hold it against you. The root "ghafara" means to cover and conceal. Al-Ghafur not only forgives but conceals your sins from others, protecting your dignity even as He pardons you. This is a level of forgiveness that humans rarely achieve — to forgive completely, to never mention it again, and to protect the sinner's honor.
In the Quran
Surah Az-Zumar (39:53): "Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
Daily Reflection
When you forgive others, do you truly let go, or do you keep a mental record? Al-Ghafur forgives completely. Can you learn to do the same?
Today's Action
Completely forgive one person today. Not partially, not conditionally — completely. Delete the mental record of their wrong against you. Free yourself and them.
Dhikr
أستغفر الله العظيم وأتوب إليه (Astaghfirullahal-'Azim wa atubu ilayh)
Say it 100 times throughout the day.
Dua

O Allah, the All-Forgiving, forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day of Reckoning.
