Al-Ahad

The Unique

Meaning

Al-Ahad is the Absolutely Unique — the One who is singular in a way that admits no plurality, no division, and no comparison. While Al-Wahid emphasizes numeric oneness (there is only one God), Al-Ahad emphasizes qualitative uniqueness (there is nothing like Him at all). He cannot be divided into parts, cannot be compared to anything, and cannot be described by any analogy. Surah Al-Ikhlas, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said equals one-third of the Quran, begins with "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" — declaring His absolute, incomparable uniqueness. This surah is the purest expression of who Allah is: Unique, Eternal, neither begetting nor begotten, with nothing comparable to Him.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Ikhlas (112:1): "Say: He is Allah, the One (Al-Ahad)."
