القهار

Al-Qahhar

The Subduer

Meaning

Al-Qahhar is the One who prevails over all things and whom nothing can resist. Every tyrant, every oppressor, every force of evil is ultimately subdued by Him. The form "Qahhar" indicates overwhelming, irresistible power that dominates completely. While this name may seem fearsome, it is deeply comforting for the oppressed — knowing that no matter how powerful their oppressor seems, Al-Qahhar will ultimately subdue them. This name reminds us of the impermanence of all worldly power and the absolute authority of Allah over every force in the universe. He subdues death itself and will resurrect all creation.

In the Quran

Surah Ar-Ra'd (13:16): "Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and earth? Say: Allah. Say: Have you then taken besides Him allies who do not possess for themselves any benefit or harm? Say: Is the blind equivalent to the seeing?"

Daily Reflection

What has been overpowering you — an addiction, a fear, a toxic relationship? Remember that Al-Qahhar has power over all things, including what dominates you.

Today's Action

Overcome one bad habit today, even partially. Resist one temptation, skip one harmful indulgence. Let Al-Qahhar's strength inspire you to subdue your nafs.

Dhikr

يا قهار (Ya Qahhar)

Say it 100 times, asking Allah to subdue the forces that harm you.

Dua

اللهم يا قهار اقهر أعداءنا واقهر نفوسنا الأمارة بالسوء

O Allah, the Subduer, overcome our enemies and overcome our souls that command evil.
