الرحيم

Ar-Raheem

The Most Merciful

Meaning

While Ar-Rahman is the general mercy for all creation, Ar-Raheem is the special, targeted mercy that Allah reserves particularly for the believers. It is the mercy that guides, forgives, and elevates. Every time you feel drawn back to prayer after missing it, every time guilt leads you to repentance — that is Ar-Raheem at work in your life. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Allah divided mercy into one hundred parts, and He kept ninety-nine parts with Him for the Day of Resurrection. The one part He sent down covers all the compassion creatures show each other.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:43): "He is the One who sends blessings upon you, and His angels, to bring you out of darkness into light. And He is ever Merciful to the believers."

Daily Reflection

Think of a time when you were at your lowest, and something brought you back. That pull toward good — that was Ar-Raheem reaching for you.
