الخافض

Al-Khafid

The Abaser

Meaning

Al-Khafid is the One who lowers and abases those who deserve to be humbled. He brings down tyrants from their thrones, collapses empires built on injustice, and humbles the arrogant. History is filled with examples of Al-Khafid's work — Pharaoh, Nimrod, and every tyrant who thought themselves invincible were ultimately brought low. This name serves as a powerful warning against arrogance and transgression. It reminds us that no position of power is permanent, no status is guaranteed, and no human is beyond being humbled. At the same time, it gives hope to the oppressed — that their oppressors will be brought down by the One who abases all who rebel against His order.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Waqi'ah (56:3): "It will bring down some and raise up others."

Daily Reflection

Where might arrogance be hiding in your character? Al-Khafid humbles those who refuse to humble themselves. Is it not better to choose humility?

Today's Action

Humble yourself before Allah today. Prolong your sujood and feel the physical humility of placing your forehead on the ground before the Most High.

Dhikr

يا خافض يا رافع (Ya Khafid, Ya Rafi')

Say them together 100 times, acknowledging that all elevation and abasement is from Allah.

Dua

اللهم يا خافض اخفض عنا كل بلاء وارفع قدرنا عندك

O Allah, the Abaser, lower all calamity from us and raise our status with You.
