Day 40

الحسيب

Al-Hasib

The Reckoner

Meaning

Al-Hasib is the One who takes account of everything with perfect precision. Not a single deed, word, thought, or intention escapes His reckoning. He is sufficient as a Reckoner — no one needs to inform Him of anything, and no audit can reveal what He does not already know. On the Day of Judgment, every person will receive their book of deeds with complete accuracy — nothing added, nothing missing. This name also means "The Sufficient" — He is enough for whoever relies on Him. When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, he said "Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal-wakeel" — Allah is sufficient for us and the best disposer of affairs. Sufficiency and accountability meet in this name.

In the Quran

Surah An-Nisa (4:6): "And sufficient is Allah as a Reckoner (Al-Hasib)."

Daily Reflection

If you received your book of deeds today, would you be satisfied? Al-Hasib has recorded every moment. Is it time to fill your record with better entries?

Today's Action

Do a personal accounting (muhasaba) tonight. Review your day — what did you do well? Where did you fall short? Make this a daily practice to prepare for Al-Hasib's final reckoning.

Dhikr

حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل (Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal-wakeel)

Say it 100 times, trusting in Allah's sufficiency.

Dua

اللهم يا حسيب حاسبنا حسابًا يسيرًا يوم القيامة

O Allah, the Reckoner, give us an easy accounting on the Day of Judgment.
