الجليل

Al-Jalil

The Majestic

Meaning

Al-Jalil is the One who possesses absolute majesty, grandeur, and sublimity. His majesty inspires awe, reverence, and a profound sense of the sacred. While beauty (jamal) draws us close with love, majesty (jalal) holds us in reverent awe. Both qualities are necessary in our relationship with Allah — we need the intimacy of His beauty and the reverence of His majesty. The angels tremble before His jalal, the mountains crumble before His greatness, and the heavens bow before His authority. When you stand in prayer, you stand before Al-Jalil — this should fill your heart with both fear and hope, awe and love, reverence and longing.

In the Quran

Surah Ar-Rahman (55:27): "And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty (Jalal) and Honor."

Daily Reflection

When did you last feel genuine awe before Allah? Al-Jalil's majesty should make our hearts tremble. Have we become too casual in our worship?

Today's Action

Pray one prayer today with heightened awareness of Al-Jalil's majesty. Stand as if you can see Him, and know that He sees you. Let awe fill your prayer.

Dhikr

يا ذا الجلال والإكرام (Ya Dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram)

Say it 100 times, honoring His majestic glory.

Dua

اللهم يا جليل املأ قلبي بتعظيمك وإجلالك

O Allah, the Majestic, fill my heart with reverence and awe of You.
