الشهيد

Ash-Shahid

The Witness

Meaning

Ash-Shahid is the One who witnesses everything — every event, every action, every word, every thought, and every intention. He is the ultimate Witness from whom nothing is hidden. His testimony is the final word, His observation is perfectly accurate, and His record is without error. On the Day of Judgment, He will bear witness for and against His servants. He witnessed every act of kindness done in secret, every tear shed in private du'a, every injustice committed behind closed doors. This name assures the oppressed that their suffering is not unseen, and warns the oppressors that their crimes are not unrecorded. Allah witnesses, and His testimony is sufficient.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Buruj (85:9): "And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy. He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness."

Daily Reflection

If Allah is a witness to everything in your life, what would you most want Him to testify about on your behalf? And what would you hope He overlooks?

Today's Action

Be a witness for truth today. Speak up when you see injustice, give honest testimony, and do not stay silent when your voice is needed.

Dhikr

يا شهيد (Ya Shahid)

Say it 100 times, conscious that Allah witnesses all your deeds.

Dua

اللهم يا شهيد اشهد أنني أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت وأن محمدًا عبدك ورسولك

O Allah, the Witness, bear witness that I testify there is no god but You and that Muhammad is Your servant and messenger.
