الحي

Al-Hayy

The Ever-Living

Meaning

Al-Hayy is the One whose life is perfect, eternal, and self-sustaining. He was never born, will never die, and never experiences any diminishment in His life. His life is unlike any created life — it has no beginning, no end, no sleep, no fatigue, and no weakness. Every living thing depends on Him for its life, while He depends on nothing. He is the source from which all life flows. When everything else dies and perishes, Al-Hayy remains. This is profoundly comforting — the One you rely on will never die, never abandon you, and never cease to exist. In Ayat al-Kursi, He is described as "Al-Hayy al-Qayyum" — the Ever-Living who sustains all existence.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255): "Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living (Al-Hayy), the Sustainer of all existence."

Daily Reflection

Everyone you love will eventually pass away, but Al-Hayy lives forever. Have you built your strongest attachment to the One who will never leave you?

Today's Action
