التواب

At-Tawwab

The Acceptor of Repentance

Meaning

At-Tawwab is the One who constantly turns toward His servants with mercy, accepting their repentance and guiding them back to Him. The name comes from "tawba" which literally means "to turn." At-Tawwab turns toward you in mercy before you turn toward Him in repentance — He inspires the desire to repent, creates the circumstances that lead you to repent, and then joyfully accepts your repentance. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Allah is more joyful at the repentance of His servant than a person who finds their lost camel in the desert after giving up hope. This joy of At-Tawwab should remove all barriers to repentance — He does not just accept it, He celebrates it.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:37): "Then Adam received from his Lord some words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of Repentance (At-Tawwab), the Merciful."

Daily Reflection

What is preventing you from repenting to At-Tawwab right now? Shame? Pride? The belief that your sin is too great? He is joyful when you return — nothing should stop you.

Today's Action

Make a sincere tawba today. Choose one sin you have been committing, feel genuine regret, resolve to stop, and turn to At-Tawwab with a broken heart. He is waiting for you.

Dhikr

يا تواب (Ya Tawwab)

Say it 100 times, turning your heart toward Allah in repentance.

Dua

اللهم يا تواب تب علينا إنك أنت التواب الرحيم

O Allah, the Acceptor of Repentance, accept our repentance, indeed You are the Most Accepting, the Most Merciful.
