Al-Muntaqim
The Avenger
Meaning
Al-Muntaqim is the One who avenges the oppressed by punishing the oppressors. His vengeance is not driven by anger or emotion like human revenge — it is a manifestation of perfect justice. When tyrants persist in their oppression, when wrongdoers refuse to repent, when injustice seems to triumph — Al-Muntaqim ensures that justice ultimately prevails. This name is a warning to oppressors: no matter how powerful they are, the Avenger is more powerful. It is also a comfort to the oppressed: your suffering is not in vain, and the One who avenges on your behalf has unlimited power. The scholars emphasize that we should seek refuge in Allah's mercy from His vengeance, for His vengeance is reserved for those who transgress all limits.
In the Quran
Surah As-Sajdah (32:22): "And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution."
Daily Reflection
If you are oppressed, trust in Al-Muntaqim to bring justice. If you have wronged someone, repent before Al-Muntaqim acts. Which side of this equation are you on?
Today's Action
Seek justice through proper channels today. Stand up for someone who has been wronged, but leave ultimate vengeance to Al-Muntaqim. Do not take revenge yourself.

اللهم يا منتقم انتقم لنا ممن ظلمنا ولا تجعلنا من الظالمين
O Allah, the Avenger, avenge us against those who oppress us and do not make us among the oppressors.
