العفو
Al-'Afuw
The Pardoner
Meaning
Al-'Afuw is the One who pardons completely — not only forgiving the sin but erasing it entirely, as if it never happened. While Al-Ghafur forgives and covers the sin, Al-'Afuw wipes it away completely from the record. This is the highest level of forgiveness: total erasure. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught Aisha to make a special du'a during the last ten nights of Ramadan: "Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni" — O Allah, You are the Pardoner who loves to pardon, so pardon me. Notice: Al-'Afuw loves to pardon. He does not just tolerate pardoning — He loves it. He actively seeks opportunities to pardon His servants. Your job is simply to ask.
In the Quran
Surah An-Nisa (4:43): "Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning ('Afuw) and Competent."
Daily Reflection
Is there a sin you carry that weighs heavily on your heart? Al-'Afuw can erase it completely — as if it never existed. What are you waiting for?
Today's Action
Pardon someone completely today — not just saying "I forgive you" while keeping resentment. Truly erase the wrong from your heart and treat them as if it never happened.
Dhikr
اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عنا (Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anna)
The du'a the Prophet taught for Laylatul Qadr. Say it 100 times.
Dua
اللهم يا عفو اعف عنا واعف عن والدينا وعن جميع المسلمين
O Allah, the Pardoner, pardon us, pardon our parents, and pardon all the Muslims.
