الرؤوف

Ar-Ra'uf

The Compassionate

Meaning

Ar-Ra'uf is the One who is intensely compassionate — His compassion is active, tender, and deeply caring. While mercy (rahma) can encompass both gentle and firm responses, ra'fa specifically refers to the tenderest, most gentle form of care. Ar-Ra'uf is compassionate with the weakness of His servants, gentle with their shortcomings, and tender in His dealings with them. He makes the difficult easy, lightens heavy burdens, and does not ask of a soul more than it can bear. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was described with this same quality — "Ra'uf and Raheem toward the believers" — because he reflected this divine attribute. Allah's compassion is felt in every ease He brings after hardship.

In the Quran

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:143): "Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Compassionate (Ra'uf)."

Daily Reflection

When was the last time you felt Allah's tender compassion in your life? Perhaps in a burden being lifted, a worry being eased, or a difficulty being resolved unexpectedly.

Today's Action

Be compassionate today — genuinely, tenderly, actively. Go beyond duty to show care. Check on someone who might be struggling. Be the embodiment of Ar-Ra'uf's quality.

Dhikr

يا رؤوف (Ya Ra'uf)

Say it 100 times, opening your heart to both receive and give compassion.

Dua

اللهم يا رؤوف ارأف بنا وخفف عنا ما لا نطيق

O Allah, the Compassionate, show us compassion and lighten from us what we cannot bear.
