الجبار
Al-Jabbar
The Compeller
Meaning
Al-Jabbar carries three profound meanings. First, He is the One who compels all of creation to His will — nothing can resist His decree. Second, He is the One who mends what is broken — He repairs hearts, restores hope, and heals wounds. The Arabic root "jabr" means to set a broken bone. Third, He is the One whose greatness is beyond all reach. When your heart is shattered, Al-Jabbar is the One who puts the pieces back together. When your life feels broken beyond repair, He is the Divine Mender. Yet this name also warns against human arrogance — for only Allah has the right to compel.
In the Quran
Surah Al-Hashr (59:23): "He is Allah... the Exalted in Might, the Compeller (Al-Jabbar), the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him."
