Al-Badi'
The Originator
Meaning
Al-Badi' is the One who originates creation in unprecedented, wondrous ways without any prior model. He is the Incomparable Originator — every creation is a masterpiece without a template. He did not look at existing designs and improve upon them; He created from His infinite imagination. The diversity of life, the variety of landscapes, the spectrum of colors, the range of sounds — all originated from Al-Badi's boundless creativity. No two sunsets are alike, no two snowflakes match, no two human beings are identical. His originality is infinite and inexhaustible. When you see something beautiful in nature that takes your breath away, you are witnessing a glimpse of Al-Badi's creative genius — and this is just a fraction of what He creates.
In the Quran
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:117): "Originator (Badi') of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it: Be, and it is."
